Bridges

Relationships are like bridges—they have to be built intentionally, they weaken under stress, and they break down from neglect. This series starts with the bridge God built to bring us into belonging, then gets practical about loving people who aren't fluent in your love language, repairing what's been burned, and handling the offenses that are sure to come. Strong bridges don't happen by accident.

Form Follows Function

Relationships, like bridges have to be built intentionally.

Relationships like bridges can be weakened by stress and sometimes need to be reinforced.

A relationship can break down from neglect.

FORM FOLLOWS FUNCTION.

Ephesians 2:10 We are God’s masterpiece.

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image.”

The image of God is a relational image.

  1. Unified In Purpose/Vision

God wants the two to become one, the devil wants the one to become two.

Amos 3:3 Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?

2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers.

Others OVER Self

When we start to get choosey about how we receive love, it makes us very self-centered.

1 Corinthians 13:5 (various translations)
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love Isn’t always “me first.”
Love it is not self-seeking.
Love does not inflate its own importance.
Love does not selfishly seek its own honor.
Love is not self-absorbed.

Healthy relationships happen when we stop looking to the people we do life with as our source of love and start looking at them as someone we can care for more than we care for ourselves.

The Sweet Spot

Luke 17:1 “It is impossible that no offenses should come, but woe to him through whom they do come!

In life you're going to be offended

Opposition Leads To Elevation

2 Samuel 10:3 The people of Ammon said to Hanun their lord, “Do you think that David really honors your father because he has sent comforters to you? Has David not rather sent his servants to you to search the city, to spy it out, and to overthrow it?”

2 Samuel 10:4 Therefore Hanun took David’s servants, shaved off half of their beards, cut off their garments in the middle, at their buttocks, and sent them away.
