Jesus At Work — The Lord Has Need Of You
Father's Day
Mark 16:15
"Go into all the world and preach the gospel."
The primary goal in reaching people with the gospel of Jesus Christ is not to bring them to church; the primary goal is to bring them to the cross, to the Gospel.
Luke 13:33
Jesus went through the towns and villages, teaching as he made his way to Jerusalem.
Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth."
Before salvation, everything is about bringing you to salvation. After salvation, Jesus sends saved people into the world, and everything is about going out, so others can be brought into salvation.
Your workplace is the "Go into all the world" God wants you to preach the Gospel to.
1. Faith Changes The Way We Work
I. Faith Gives You An Inner Balance
Without Jesus at the center, work becomes an identity project. When your identity is fused to your performance, failure feels fatal.
The Gospel says, today you are: Loved, Forgiven, Chosen, and Secure.
II. Faith Gives Dignity To All Work
The Bible teaches that work that serves people matters to God. Every act of faithful service has dignity because every person bears the image of God.
III. Faith Gives You A Moral Compass
The reality of work is it has the power to shape you, and without integrity, it won't shape you into someone more like Jesus. As followers of Jesus, we have a compass, and that doesn't move with the market.
IV. Faith Gives You Hope When Work Frustrates You
Nothing done for Jesus is ever wasted.
1 Corinthians 15:58
"Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
God sees your leaf, and one day you'll see the tree.
2. Faith Makes Jesus Visible
Matthew 5:14
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden."
Matthew 5:16
"Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."
The picture Jesus gives us is not just people who announce something — it's people who display something.
1 Peter 3:15
"Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have."
We are not called to force the gospel into every conversation, but we are called to live in such a way that our lives create gospel curiosity.
- Know what you believe and why you believe it.
- Know your environment.
Being ready isn't just knowing the Gospel. Being ready is knowing how to connect the Gospel to the people God has already placed in your life.
3. Faith Carries Jesus To People
Matthew 21:2–3
"Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, 'The Lord needs them.'"
God doesn't just use impressive things. God uses available things.
Jesus needed the donkey because the donkey was going to carry Him where people could see Him. We are called to carry Jesus into places where people need to see Him.
God has always chosen to work through people. The Lord has need of you.
Matthew 21:2
"Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her."
There's always another seat with Jesus.
