Created To Thrive
Text: Psalm 92:12-15 ESV
God designed human beings to FLOURISH from the very beginning and designed an ENVIRONMENT in which their maximum potential and purpose would be realized.
Genesis 1:26-28
26 Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
OUR FALSE ASSUMPTIONS AND BELIEFS:
“If God designed us to flourish, why are we so prone to fail, falter and fear?”
We believe that some people are “exceptional” — and so we call them heroes
FOUR REALMS FOR US TO FLOURISH:
Identity = Image Bearers of God
Authority = Dominion over the earth (born out of our identity and intimacy)
Fruitfulness = productive. multiplication.CREATING MORE of what God has put IN US
Inheritance/Partnership = crafting the world into a temple/house for God’s glory to fill
WHAT DID WE LOSE IN THE FALL?
The PRESENCE OF GOD
Genesis 3:8-9 “And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day and the man and his wife hid themselves from the Presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.”
Garden = a place of protection, shelter and order. An environment of boundaries under protective guardianship. A cultivated place
WHAT HAS JESUS RESTORED?
Identity — John 1:12 “But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name he gave the right to become children of God”
Authority — Matthew 28:18 “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. God therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have comma did you. And Behold I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Fruitfulness — John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I have chosen you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name he may give it to you.”
Partnership/ Inheritance — 1 Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people but now you are God’s people; once you did not receive mercy, but now you have received mercy
