Big Idea:
God promised a Deliverer—and Jesus is the One!
Read Together
Micah 5:2– "From Bethlehem shall come forth one who is to be ruler in Israel."
Malachi 4:2– "For you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings."
The Story
All through the Old Testament, God's people were waiting. From the garden of Eden, God had promised a Snake Crusher. Abraham was promised a son. David was promised a forever King. The prophets promised a Messiah.
But still they waited… and waited… and waited.
Finally, the prophet Malachi told them: "The day is coming when the proud will fall, but for those who trust in the Lord, the sun will rise with healing."
It was like God was saying: "Don't give up hope. The Rescuer is coming soon."
Advent Connection
Advent is about waiting. God's people waited for Jesus' first coming, and now we wait for His return. The good news is: God always keeps His promises.
Talk About It
• What did God promise in the Old Testament? • Why did His people have to wait? • How do we wait for Jesus today?
Activity
Sunrise Promise
• Draw a big sun with rays. • On each ray, write or draw something Jesus promises (love, forgiveness, new life, heaven). • Hang it up as a reminder that the "Sun of Righteousness" has risen in Jesus.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You that You always keep Your promises. Help us to wait with hope and joy for Jesus. Amen.
Family Challenge
Before bed, go outside and look at the stars. Say together: "We are waiting for Jesus!"
