Big Idea:
God made everything good, but sin broke it. From the very beginning, God promised to send Jesus—the Rescuer.
Read Together
Genesis 1:1– "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth."
Genesis 3:15– "He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel."
The Story
From the very first verse, we learn: the story starts with God. He made the whole world! And the most special thing He made was people—us!
The Biggest Story Storybook Bible says: "Of all the special things God made, the most important thing was not a thing at all. It was a person… We were made to be pictures of God's glory."
But then Adam and Eve listened to the sneaky snake. They ate the fruit God told them not to eat. That's when sin entered the world. Sin is wanting to be the boss instead of letting God be the boss. Even though Adam and Eve had to leave the garden, God made a promise. One day, He would send a Snake Crusher—a Savior—to defeat the serpent and rescue His people. That Savior is Jesus!
Advent Connection
Advent is a time of waiting and hoping. Just like God's people long ago waited for Jesus' first coming, we wait for His second coming—when He will make everything new.
Talk About It
What's your favorite thing God made? What do you think it means that people are "pictures of God's glory"? How does it feel to know that even when Adam and Eve sinned, God already had a plan to send Jesus?
Activity
Light in the Darkness
Turn off all the lights in a room for a few seconds. Then light a candle or turn on a flashlight. Talk about how sin brought darkness, but Jesus is the light of the world. End by reading John 8:12 together: "I am the light of the world."
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for making the world so good. We are sorry for the times we want to be the boss instead of You. Thank You for promising to send Jesus, the Snake Crusher, to save us. Help us get ready to celebrate Him this Christmas. Amen.
Family Challenge
Tonight at dinner, go around the table and let each person say one thing they're thankful God created. Then say together: "God made it. God loves it. God sent Jesus to save it."
