Big Idea:
God's people sing because He saves. Jesus is our Good Shepherd.
Read Together
Psalm 23:1– "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want."
John 10:11– "I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep."
The Story
The Bible has a whole book of songs called Psalms—150 of them! Some are happy, some are sad, but they all remind us that God is with His people.
One of the most famous is Psalm 23, written by David: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul."
David had been a shepherd himself, so he knew how much sheep needed care. But David also knew that he needed a shepherd—God.
Advent Connection
At Christmas, the Good Shepherd came. Jesus doesn't just guide His sheep—He lays down His life for them. He is both the Shepherd who protects us and the Lamb who saves us.
Talk About It
• What does a shepherd do for sheep? • How does God take care of us like a shepherd? • How is Jesus both a Shepherd and a Lamb?
Activity
Sheep Craft
• Cut out a sheep shape from paper. • Glue cotton balls on it to make it fluffy. • Write on it: "The Lord is my shepherd."
Prayer
Dear Jesus, thank You for being our Good Shepherd. Thank You for leading us, protecting us, and giving Your life for us. Amen.
Family Challenge
At bedtime, sing a favorite worship song together as a family. Then say: "God saves, and His people sing!"
