Big Idea:

Even the best kings fail, but God promised a forever King—Jesus.

Read Together

2 Samuel 12:13 – "David said to Nathan, 'I have sinned against the Lord.'"

Luke 1:32–33– "The Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign… and of his kingdom there will be no end."

The Story

David was called "a man after God's own heart." He defeated Goliath, wrote psalms, and led God's people.

But David also sinned. He took another man's wife, Bathsheba, and had her husband killed. When the prophet Nathan confronted him, David admitted: "I have sinned against the Lord."

David repented, and God forgave him. But David's sin brought pain to his family and his kingdom.

Advent Connection

David's story reminds us that even the best king failed. But God had promised a greater King from David's line—one who would never sin, never fail, and never lose His kingdom.

At Christmas, that King was born. Jesus, the Son of David, came to sit on the throne forever.

Talk About It

• Why is it important that David admitted his sin? • What does this story show us about forgiveness? • How is Jesus a better King than David?

Activity

Crown of Promises

• Cut a strip of paper into a crown shape. • Write "Jesus – Forever King" on it. • Decorate with colors or stickers. • Wear it to remember Jesus' kingdom never ends.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for forgiving David and for keeping Your promise to send a better King. Thank You for Jesus, the Son of David, whose kingdom will last forever. Amen.

Family Challenge

Tonight, each person share one way you can honor Jesus as King this week. Then say together: "Jesus is our forever King."
